Judith Aponte is a Hispanic Nurse, Educator, Researcher and Speaker. She is a tenured Associate Professor at Hunter College, School of Nursing, City University of New York. Her research focus is on Hispanics with diabetes. She is a fellow at the Academy of Medicine. She was an awardee and finalist of the 2014 NY/NJ Nursing Excellence in Giving Excellence Meaning award in the category of Advancing and Leading the Profession. She has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles and has received grant funding, to examine diabetes and diabetes-related disparities among Hispanics and interventions that promote optimum health and minimize complications.

Diabetes is causing an increase in mortality and morbidity especially among Hispanics and integration of CHWs may improve and reduce diabetes-complications.

Fadi Nabhan has completed his MD at Damascus University and then Internal Medicine Residency and Endocrinology Fellowship at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Division of Endocirnolgy, Diabetes, and Metabolism at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH in the USA . His research interest is in thyroid disease.

Ayla Coussa has completed her degree in Dietetics & Human Nutrition at McGill University (Canada). She also obtained her Credentialed Practitioner Licence by the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She went on to complete a Master’s degree in Human Nutrition at McGill. Ms. Coussa is specialized in diabetes and weight-loss management. She was the first practitioner to introduce Nutrigenomix© genetic testing in Quebec (Canada). Ms. Coussa has also been involved in academia at McGill University at the School of Dietetics & Human Nutrition and the Faculty of Medecine. As an ongoing advocate of public wellbeing, Ms. Coussa plays a pioneer role in guidelines’ development and teaching practises for diabetes. She has developed the first Arabic version of the Diabetes Prevention and Management Nutrition tool for the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Johnny Ludvigsson, MD, PhD is a full Professor of Pediatrics, Linköping University. He performed the first immune intervention ever in T1D with plasmapheresis (BMJ 1983) which lead to the discovery of 64kD (Nature 1982), later shown to be GAD. He performed a number of different immune interventios both with GAD-alum (NEJM 2008, NEJM 2012) and AntiCD3 monoclonal antibodies (Lancet 2011). More than 430 scientific publications also on diabetic complications (NEJM 1994), and is the main tutor of >20 PhD students. He was the first pediatrician ever as Honorary member of EASD.
